I am so excited to be here.
Hi, I’m Jo. I’m an artist based in West Yorkshire, I specialise in sketchbook practice and creating engaging, inspiring and informative ways to learn. Nature has always been one of my biggest loves. Seasonality and a hardcore love for British landscape, flora and fauna runs through much of what I do.
In my late 30s I was diagnosed with ADHD. This made sense of a lot of things. Including the unconventional way I draw and teach - prioritising enjoyment over style, emotion over technique and the sensory exploration of media over more traditional methods.
It also means that over 20+ years of creative practice I’ve encountered many stumbling blocks. Because of this my work acknowledges and promotes self-compassion as an essential ingredient in any creative undertaking.
Why now?
Teaching online for the last few years has been a blessing. An opportunity to decompress after years of working with thousands (literally - I’ve calculated) of people in person. And now I’m craving something new.
I love to learn & grow in community
Despite 7 years of illustration/design education my drawing skills are mostly self taught. I’ve gotten so far this way, but there are plenty of drawing skills for me yet to master. Scribbles in the Sky will offer a community space based on a mutual love of learning and sharing. For paid subscribers there will be monthly topics that relate to different aspects of drawing practice (aka skills). Each topic will be broken down with opportunities to learn spread through the month.
Whats on offer?
Free Subscribers
A monthly article on creative practice featuring insights and practical tips to help your creativity thrive. This will be more in-depth content than I’ve been able to share elsewhere before.
Paid Subscribers
as above
First you’ll receive an Intro post where I break down the topic with actions to help you start your own explorations
A week/10 days later you’ll receive a Progress post where I share my drawings, strategies & learnings
Then last but no means least there will be a Live co-drawing session where we practice these skills together. This will be an opportunity to ask questions and celebrate both the successes and failures that go into learning. Live sessions will be recorded and available to watch any time
Access to the growing back-catalogue of content
Monthly themes will suit drawers of all levels - I’m using them to improve my own drawing - as well as yours. I get to deep dive, draw and share my learning, you get to chose how to engage and draw as much or as little as suits you - as I explain below.
